Women in Business Awards 2024: Finalist: Jolsna Thomas President, The Rosendin Foundation
Jolsna Thomas has a loud voice and network, and she plans on using it to advocate for others.
The president of nonprofit The Rosendin Foundation pivoted from business to law after developing a passion for workers’ rights. While serving as the inaugural business developer for an electricians union, she discovered a passion for nonprofits and volunteering.
Thomas has led Rosendin since its inception and distributed $1.8 million in funding to 222 nonprofits across the country. She spearheaded the launch of TRFCamp Build, a camp for middle schoolers, as well as co-chaired Camp NAWIC, a camp for girls.
How do you lead in your company and community? What is your leadership style?
I lead by example. I get into the weeds. I volunteer during Service Days. I pitch in and help, especially when unexpected things happen. I speak out against injustice and advocate for equity and inclusion.
My leadership style would be described as servant leadership. I care more about the needs and advancement of my staff and volunteers to ensure they are successful than my personal success. I want to see our volunteers and staff grow and branch out in new directions.
What challenges have you faced?
The most difficult challenges I’ve had to overcome were bullying and a lack of support from male managers regarding career development.
