Service Day: San Jose – Back to School Drive

The Rosendin Foundation was excited to team up with Family Giving Tree, a charitable organization committed to empower, uplift, and unite Bay Area students. Family Giving Tree aims to provide 30,000 students with grade-appropriate supply-filled backpacks for their 29th year of supporting students for Back-to-School.
This Service Day was organized to help Family Giving Tree reach their goal by July 22nd. As a company, we set our own goal to provide 25 backpacks to kids in need and $5,000 dollars to help the Family Giving Tree’s overall goal of 30,0000 backpacks donated by the fall.
The event allowed employees to be a part of this educational movement in 2 ways:
- Virtual Giving Tree: Go online and financially fund a backpack by visiting our donation website. You could select to provide a K-2, 3-5, or 6-12 grade backpack filled with essential school supplies. You could also help fund Bonus Bundles and Health and Hydration packs which get added to the backpacks.
- Physical backpack/supply donation: Choose a backpack tag and shop for the specific items listed on the tag and a brand-new, quality, padded backpack. There were 3 different grade levels to choose from, with tags located at the lobby of both, Mabury and Orchard offices. We also set up an Amazon shopping list with some suggested bulk items needed for the Back-to-School Drive for employees to donate a few supplies instead of a whole backpack. Drop-off bins were in each lobby.
With the physical supplies collected, we coordinated a backpack stuffing event to get employees together to help stuff backpacks and enjoy some snacks and sips together!
We were thrilled to work together this summer to support our amazing Bay Area students and support Family Giving Tree. Thank you for rising to the challenge to uplift our community. Together, Everyone Achieves More!
About Family Giving Tree
For 33 years, the Family Giving Tree has been steadfastly committed to being of service to those most in need. So perhaps it’s not surprising that what started as a San Jose State MBA project to help in-need children has grown steadily into an established, widely respected nonprofit organization. In 2022, despite the pandemic, and with the help of more than 464 Bay Area nonprofit agencies and schools, 3,969 volunteers, and 1000+ individuals, groups, and businesses that helped us lead drives—we fulfilled nearly 56,000 holiday wishes and provided more than nearly 28,000 supply-filled backpacks to those most in need. Family Giving Tree has served over two million children and individuals throughout the greater Bay Area as we actively endeavor to inspire the values of kindness, philanthropy, and volunteerism in our community.
